The 2016 Marathon will focus on strokes and spinal cord injuries

La Marató, promoted by TV3 and the La Marató de TV3 Foundation, is a solidarity project focused on obtaining financial resources for research of diseases that, for now, have no definitive cure.

This year, La Marató will reach its 25th edition and will be held on December 18 with stroke and traumatic spinal cord and brain injuries as protagonists.

Stroke affects about 17 million people worldwide each year and kills six million. In addition, despite surviving a stroke, 45% of people who suffer from it will have a disability, whether motor, sensory, cognitive, speech or comprehension, generating serious repercussions on quality of life.

Brain injuries for traumatic causes they affect areas of the brain responsible for movement, sensations and perceptions, emotions and behavior, as well as attention, memory, language and intelligence. On the other hand, the spinal cord injuries they can cause paralysis of voluntary mobility and lack of sensitivity below the affected area, as well as other disorders and diseases derived from this state.
