On December 13, as usual for these dates, the 24th edition of the TV3 Marathon will be held, this year dedicated to diabetes and obesity.
Both diabetes and obesity are two of the most common metabolic diseases in Catalonia and elsewhere. According to 2014 data, diabetes affects 400 million adults in the world and the predictions, if healthier lifestyles are not adopted, is that the numbers will increase to 600 million in just 20 years.
In recent years, treatments have managed to improve the quality and life expectancy of those affected, but diabetes and obesity are still two chronic diseases: further research is needed to find the causes and a definitive solution.
The Marathon has been achieving a very important social mobilization and fundraising for research for years because it adopts various formulas to involve thousands of people.
