The Cercles de Suport i Responsabil – CerclesCAT program is a social integration program promoted by the General Directorate of Penitentiary Services of the Department of Justice and managed by the Fundació Salut i Comunitat, aimed at people in an open regime and on parole. it aims to facilitate their reintegration and prevent their recurrence.
The CerclesCAT program was born in Canada in 1995 as an intervention model aimed at sex offenders and was implemented in Catalonia, through participation in pilot circles in the framework of the European project Circles 4EU, where they participated in other European countries.
The CerclesCAT program consists of accompanying and supervising sex offenders in the period prior to final release, thus facilitating their insertion into society and preventing, as far as possible, them from committing a new crime.
In order to fulfill its goal, the CerclesCat program has a group of volunteers who, under the supervision of a professional (circle coordinator), offer support to the person who committed the sexual crime. The project places special emphasis on the prevention of violence and public safety, with the motto “no more victims” which unites all the participants in the project: prisoners, professionals and volunteers.
It is worth mentioning that in CerclesCat volunteering is more than an added value; their collaboration is essential for the development of the project. The volunteer receives specific training and support to be able to carry out their work. The requirements to be able to be a volunteer are:
– Be of legal age
– Have no criminal record
– Pass the Initial Training of CerclesCat (next call c / s 16-17 December)
